Kimberly Schafer spent 33 years in medical research administration at UC San Diego before doing what most people only talk about: she started over.
What most people don’t know is that her persistence began long before any business venture. At 26, a life-threatening illness reshaped everything she thought she knew about herself — and taught her something she has carried for four decades since: you don’t wait to feel ready. You take the next step anyway.
After building a career at one of the country’s leading research institutions, Kimberly began a second act in her early 50s — conceiving a product idea at a nail salon, navigating the patent process alone, and receiving three U.S. patents at age 60.
Today, the Ring Thing® — her waterproof, patented ring holder — sells across multiple retail channels. Kimberly hosts The Persistence Payoff Show, an internationally broadcast interview series dedicated to people who refused to quit. And through Simply Persist® and Culture of One, she speaks to audiences about what it actually takes to build a life that is fully, authentically yours.
